Allow Javascript in intro text for MailChimp?

I’m thinking about this one. I’d like to compare the security in place on the default text widget and, ideally, not offer anything less secure than that in the plugin itself. Adding scripts could be a security issue, so just mulling it over.

I likely won’t have a chance to check into this until next week, sadly. As an alternate, have you tried adding a text widget with just the Javascript portion of the MailChimp code?

I’ll check it out either way, but that might get you up and moving faster.

Thanks for getting back to me, Brandon. Could it be accomplished by writing a function to call the counter from Mailchimp into the plugin itself, rather than just allowing any scripting? I realize I am using lots of made-up terminology here that may or may not be communitcating anything at all.

I think it’s an important feature. Being able to say “There are 1,045 subscribers to our newsletter” seems to generate even more signups, once visitors can see that there is already an established list that others find valuable.

I could accomplish the same thing just using text widgets and MailChimp’s signup box, but I really like eNews extended, and would like to be able to use it, instead. It’s so pretty.

Yeah, that’s the longterm plan for the plugin. It is a fair amount of work to tie into the APIs from the initial research (need to authenticate that you own the feed, store that, etc) that is a few notches above where the plugin is now.

+1 for this one, but for hidden fields with Javascripts. I use js to track the URL of the optin (Mailchimp), and the widget strips out js now.

Maybe it would be cleaner to have a function to add into funcions.php file
I don’t which road is better, but tracking optin form & optin URL is a key data for me.
