Seems to creeped its way back in with the latest release (or WP release).

Users that had “edit published” but not “publish” capabilities see this issue on scheduled posts. They see “submit for review” rather than “schedule” on a post that’s been scheduled for release.

Adding the “publish” capability to those users does resolve it, but I’m trying to restrict these user’s ability to publish posts on their own.

WP 5.2.4 // Gutenberg (not using the classic editor)

@jshltz This is actually a WordPress bug, but now you can work around it by activating Capability Manager Enhanced 1.8!

In addition to causing the edit_published_posts capability to be fully effective in Gutenberg, this workaround also prevents these “Contributor Plus” users from unpublishing a post.

The support for a modified Contributor role that can edit_published_posts but not publish_posts was removed in version 1.8.1 due to conflicts with WooCommerce and auto-draft publication. I identified the cause of the errors and have reinstated the support you were looking for in version 1.8.2-beta.

Although the error and fix are straightforward, we aren’t going to restore this support to the production release until after more testing. If you would like to participate in that testing, feel free to install the beta version. You’ll have to first deactivate and delete the production release and then install this using Plugins > Add New > Upload.

Sincerely appreciate the heads up as I already went to 1.8.1! I’ll go to 1.8 or get on the beta. If there’s helpful feedback I could offer, please let me know!
