    Hi Folks,
All my links to YouTube links are being changed at present as BLC REDIRECTS. At the moment >500 and counting and all return an HTTP code: 200

Typically, URL a YouTube is just: https://youtu.be/SMkNDvX_Niw
However, BLC Redirect now wants to change that to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMkNDvX_Niw&feature=youtu.be

Since many of the URLs are simple text lists of URLs, this makes the whole pages and comments look bad as the formatting did not allow for these long URLs.

Is this redirect URL being required by BLC or YouTube?

I have stopped fixing the issues for the time being as there are too many to do one at a time, as I need to check the particular page situations.

Below is the Detail info from BLC. All 500+ are the same.
    Regards and thanks,
    Angus

  • “Is this redirect URL being required by BLC or YouTube?” YouTube.

Click on the URL you supplied: https://youtu.be/SMkNDvX_Niw

    It resolves to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMkNDvX_Niw&feature=youtu.be

That’s why the plugin is telling you it’s a redirect.

    @tomusher
    Thank you.
    Yes I had surmised that.
I guess my real question was whether BLC was operating correctly as designed.
In other words, that it takes a standard short clean native YouTube URL format and changes it to a mess.
And well also of course, that henceforth, whenever I paste in an native YouTube URL, I will be hit with a BLC redirect a short time later, to deal with.
But it seems it is operating as designed.
    No worries!
FYI I actually did a check with GTMetrix to see if it does make a difference and the results were:
    Short YT URL: 24.3s @16.3Mb w/147 requests.
    Long YT URL: 22.6s @17.2Mb w/180 requests.
However a sample of 1 is not worth much….
    Regards and thanks,
    Angus
