• The Issue

Every new WooCommerce customer is being automatically marked as “subscribed” in MailPoet, even if they haven’t opted in by checking the subscription checkbox during checkout. This is causing some confusion and is not aligning with our intended setup.

    Current Setup
    MailPoet Version: latest
    WooCommerce Version: latest

    Subscription Settings:
The opt-in checkbox is available at checkout but is unticked by default.

Customers who check this box should be added to our “Consented Subscribers” list.

All customers, regardless of subscription status, should be added to the “WooCommerce Customers” list.

    What I’ve Tried

I double-checked all settings in MailPoet > Settings > WooCommerce to make sure the opt-in checkbox is correctly configured.

Ideally, only customers who tick the opt-in checkbox should be marked as “subscribed” and added to our “Consented Subscribers” list along with the default woocommerce customers list. Customers who do not opt-in should still be added to the “WooCommerce Customers” list but marked as “unsubscribed” and should not receive marketing emails.

    Hello @princejammy,

To assist you further, could you please confirm if the “Subscribe old WooCommerce customers” option in MailPoet > Settings > WooCommerce is currently checked? If it is, I recommend unchecking this option and then going to MailPoet > Lists to force sync the WooCommerce Customers list. This should change the status to unsubscribed. Kindly check if these changes make any differences in how the customer list is handled.

If the issue persists, could you please send us the following information: Copy and paste the information from MailPoet > Help > System Info.

Looking forward to resolving this issue for you!

    Hey – Thanks for this.

The “Subscribe old WooCommerce customers” option was already unchecked and still my new customers are being added as subscribers but not WooCommerce customers?

I see. Can you send us a screenshot of how the WooCommerce customer list in MailPoet > Subscriptions > WooCommerce Customer looks? You can blur out the email address of the customers.

Can you please send us the following information:

    • Copy and paste the information from MailPoet > Help > System Info.
