All Updates Fail on WP Engine – Could not copy file.

I am using the PRO version of this plugin. (could not login to support)
I have this on various web sites and hosting companies.
The sites hosted by WP Engine are all having the same problem. Automatic updates fail; manual updates work.
I did do a file permission reset, but did not resolve.
Message in logs for typical plugin
