• Hi there,

i’m having problem with every twitter plugin that has a widget to display my latest tweets on blog’s sidebar. None of them works correctly. Some of them manage to display my latest tweets for some seconds and then goes offline (as every other twitter plugin does), displaying smtg like “can’t connect to twitter” or “unable to find user” or “twitter is down” etc.

My blog is on djdb.me, hosted with Bluehost. Find out on a blog post that this may have to do with my provider’s firewall and some blocked curl outgoing connections, but they can’t help if i don’t tell them what type of connection those plugins are trying to establish and over what ports. I don’t know how i could find that info.

Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions to help?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I don’t use Twitter, so I’m not sure how that’d work. If it does connect over a specific port, you would need to make sure that your host has that port open, however, twitter is common enough that if this problem was happening everywhere, it seems there would be more talk about it.

It could be a problem with the plugin, but it could also be a problem with something else on your site breaking that particular plugin. I’d suggest deactivating every single other plugin and temporarily switching to the default theme and then do a hard refresh on your site and see how the twitter feeds show up.

You can also try reinstalling the plugin. I’m not sure exactly how the plugin works, but it may be writing code to the .htaccess or being broken by code in the .htaccess.

Also check your site’s code validation here: https://validator.w3.org/

Seems like many users have this kind of problem. Different plugins, similar problem, no specific solution:

I have no problem with any other plugin installed. Tried deactivating and uninstalling all of them but problem persists. The official twitter widget (not plugin, https://bit.ly/aXTrRh ) works ok, but it’s too “heavy” for my taste..

    Any ideas?

I take it no one has any more problems? I do. I too am hosted by Bluehost (they are great!) I have two sites, one site is WP 2.9.2 and the twitter feed is working perfect. But I have another that is using WP 3.0-beta and it cannot connect. Could it be the WP version is not letting me connect to my twitter stream? I have tried Twitter Widget Pro, Twitter Tools and Wickett Twitter… all fail. T_T (oh, and the forum over at Twitter Widget Pro is useless.)

Does any one have any updates?

I’m not sure what would be causing it, but would be curious to see a couple more tests on it with the beta install. Maybe try installing the latest release of the beta/Release Candidate(3.0-RC1) into a separate test folder and test the plugins there and see if it works or has issues.

If it doesn’t work, temporarily rename the .htaccess file in your public_html directory and test again. If it still doesn’t work… rename the .htaccess file back as you are probably using it and need it.
