I must be doing something wrong. I upgraded my hosting plan to Turbo and then installed this plug-in to tweak settings and make my very slow WP site faster.

Every test I run, spins for a long time and then returns zero. If I click away from the test and then back, it shows “last check: none” as though nothing has ever been tested.

Is there something else that must be set up in order for this plug-in to do anything?

FWIW, I did click most of the optimization suggestions and try the test again but absolutely no change whatsoever.

I discovered after posting this that my A2 account is not yet migrated to Turbo hosting. I’m guessing that may be the reason the plug-in is not working as expected. I will re-try after the migration is completed.

Well, my site has now been upgraded to a Turbo server and still the utilities in the plug-in don’t seem to do anything except spin.

I guess I’ll just uninstall this plug-in since it doesn’t so anything as far as I can tell.

    Hello!

If your benchmark scores are constantly coming back zero, it’s because the Google Pagespeed API is unable to reach your site. There will be a small notice on the page about that. We’re preparing an update to make this more prominent.

For your other issues, please reach out to A2 Hosting support through your client portal and someone will be able to take a look at your account to make sure Turbo is enabled.

the Google Pagespeed API is unable to reach your site</

Would that be because my site is currently set to discourage search engines? The site isn’t public yet – I’m still building it, so not sure I want change that.

I turned off the setting that discourages search engines and still get the message: Pagespeed was unable to connect to this WordPress site. Please check your site configuration.

Do I have to sign up for an account with Pagespeed? When I check my site URL directly on PageSpeed Insights, I have no problem seeing the tests there.

I’m unclear on what needs to be configured and where.

    Hello,

If you’re able to check it directly via Pagespeed insights, then you’re all set as far as allowing access goes. That leaves the public API key used for Google Pagespeed. As it’s used quite heavily, it may be throttled from time to time. We’ll be looking at ways to improve this in future releases.

In the meantime, you can always get the same data directly from Google Pagespeed Insights or similar data from GTMetrix.

So, you’re saying that I should just use Google’s service directly manually rather than trying to get the plug-in to work? I thought the whole idea was to use the results of the Pagespeed test to make suggestions on how best to tweak the wordpress settings. The Google pagespeed results don’t make any sense to me in terms of what I should do in wordPress.

The whole reason I upgraded my hosting plan was to be able to use this plug-in to improve my site’s performance. So, far the hosting upgrade hasn’t helped me at all. Very disappointed.

    Hello,

The “Performance” panel within the “Optimization” tab of the A2 Optimized plugin will give you a list of the recommended items you should enable to help most sites work best on A2 Turbo servers.

If you’re still having issues, you can reach out directly to A2 support through your client portal to confirm your server is configured correctly.
