All pictures missing from main site while containers remain

This weekend I lost all of my pictures on my main site dunlapfamily.me, the container boxes are still there but no images. When I check the wp-content upload file the images are still there however when I type the direct url for an image I get a 403 error. I checked the permissions and the folder is set to 755 which has been since I installed word press. my subdomain cookbook.dunlapfamily.me is working perfectly.

I am not sure what else to try from here.
I am using nggallery to show photos in addition to the general wordpress galleries.
