This morning I got a reply from my writer that no comments were made. I check, and sure enough all 30 comments have completely disappeared like they never existed. No record. Not even a tally in the post list.

It seems I had accidentally published the post instead of saving the draft, and it went out to Telegram and Twitter. Once I saw it in my Telegram group hours later, I quickly deleted the announcements and sent the post back to draft.

Could that have removed all comments?

How do I get them back?

  • hello @valuemyask

You can check it in your revision and if your revision has stored comments properly you can get back it from the revision.

    Yeah comments are there, but…

Why are they removed between revisions?

    hello @valuemyask,

We are saving comments on draft mode so if some comments are not properly saved by saving a draft or in Auto save mode they will not appear on page. You can use the info board feature as a reminder(From multicollab plugin’s setting tab) that how many comments are still pending to save. This feature will indicate when you add any new comments and if it’s not saved.

Do you plan on fixing the UX to be more adaptable in this instance?

I want to continue using your product, but I cannot guarantee that I won’t accidentally Publish, and I certainly don’t want to stop auto save. Writers are volunteers currently and lack of auto save could add frustration to an otherwise good experience.

This definitely had something to do with it… I had the Gutenberg editor disabled for the author’s membership level using a plugin.

I’m fairly certain this was the cause.

    Can you confirm?

Sure @valuemyask, I will check this case and get back to you.

    Hello @valuemyask

We have checked your case, Comments are not disappeared when you suddenly publish a post and then switch back to draft. At that time Multicollab Plugin will work properly.

The root cause of your issue is that you are using Gutenberg but your author is not using Gutenberg so when your author access a post and updates anything at that time WordPress considers 0 comments because Multicollab is compatible with Gutenberg only.??When you check the Updated post by the author again you feel that your comments are disappearing because WordPress has stored the latest copy which is edited by the author.

We will add this in our future roadmap but at this moment the only solution is you need to use Gutenberg editor for an author as well.

I have a website that had a lot of comments until last month. When I logged into the admin today I found that they were all gone. The site is completely down! What could have happened? How to solve? This has never happened before and I have not installed or removed any plugins.

sorry, i dont know how to erase this comment- i am not using this plugin…
