• Hi,
I’ve recently taken over administration of a site from somebody else.
It had a set of external links under the ‘Links’ menu but the page referencing them contained the tag <link_library…>. I updated the plugin as wordpress recommended but now none of my links are showing.

I tried disabling link_library again but this didn’t help, so I enabled it back.
I also tried disabling the legacy link_manager plugin, this removes the ‘Links’ menu on the left side of teh Admin screen but no other apparent effect.

All of our link entries still exist in the truewp_links and truewp_links_extrainfo tables but are not visible in the link_library plugin admin list.

If I add a new link from link_library it’s not clear which table it is going to. I’d simply move all the links over in SQL if there were simply a different table for it.

Please give me a hint what to do to get my links displaying again, preferably with just your link_library plugin, and not the legacy link_manager.
    Thanks
    Ed

Since version 6.0, released about a month ago, Links have been migrated from the links tables to the posts and postmeta tables, as custom post type entries.

The first thing to try it to go to the General Options section and click the Re-import links button. This will try to re-convert all links from the old tables to the new format.

If that still does not work, let me know if the shortcode contains anything other than the Link Library keyword. If it has a list of category IDs, these will need to be updated to reflect the new IDs given to each category after the conversion.

    Hi,

After updated, all link were missing. I did following Yannick Lefebvre information. Only 1 link show and all setting disappeared.

I decided to go back to previous version. But all setting gone.

Anyhow thanks for developing this plugin. I wish you can solve the problems. I awaiting to your premium customer.

Thank you Yannick, the “Re-import links” button worked exactly as you described, I don’t know why I didn’t find that before.
All links are displaying as expected and I have managed to improve display much better than previously.

One issue I have now is that I wanted to generate some missing thumbnails.
I ticked “Give priority to images assigned to links if present” and pressed ‘Generate thumbnails and store locally” but it seems to have changed out all of my local thumbnail images (0 bytes files in uploads/link-library-images). The original thumbnails are still present but the references have all been updated to these empty files.

I can see why you would think that checking the option ‘Give priority to images assigned to links if present’ would preserve images and they are already assigned. Unfortunately, it only does so if you check it, save options, then press the button to generate thumbnails… Sorry about that. There is no easy way to restore the old images, short of having a backup of your site to get all of the old images and bringing them back, then reassigning them. I will look to make this better in an update, but will not be able to get to this in next week.

    Hi Yannick,

Does this table change to Posts/Postsmeta mean that the links and links_extainfo tables can safely be removed?

    Plugin Author Yannick Lefebvre

    (@jackdewey)

Yes and no. The Links table is actually part of the core WordPress database schema, whole the links_extrainfo table was created by Link Library. Once you have migrated your links over to the latest version, you can definitely delete the links_extrainfo table and also delete the contents of the links table. If you delete the links table, it may come back when you upgrade to a newer WordPress version.

    Hi Yannick,
Also after re-importing the links all my links do not show up … I can see all links in the all links section though. Do you have an idea?

    Thanks Arno

if you can see your links in the All Links section, the problem is with your shortcodes. If you specified category IDs in your shortcodes, these categories have changed when you upgraded to Link Library 6.x. You will need to look at what are the updated category IDs and update your shortcode instances.

Let me know if this helps and please consider donating to support this plugin’s development.

    Hi Yannick!

I do not fully understand your answer/advice. What is a shortcode? Is it the slug of the category? I tried to define new categories and assign to links I have those new categories … this did not work as well …

    Thanks and cheers, Arno

A shortcode is what you put on a page to display your library (e.g. [link-library] )

When you put these on your page, did your shortcodes include any parameters (e.g. [link-library categorylistoverride=”1,3,7″] )?

Ah, Ok. Nope I do not use such codes. I tried to play around with the options and the result of:

    [link-library] [link-library-cats settings=27] [link-library-search] [link-library settings=1] [link-library-addlink settings=1]

    You can find here:

    https://it-must-schwing.de/links/

I also tried to define a new category and assigned some links to the new category. Also, I added new links, they do not show up either … I am really puzzled …

    Thanks, Arno

Can you go to the Import / Export tab of your library configuration and export your settings, then send them to me via e-mail? That way I can load your configuration on my local dev site and get a better understanding of how you have configured your library.

    Thanks

Thanks for the offer. You should have gotten that email.

    Thx again and cheers, Arno

Hello Arno, I asked you for an export of your library configuration, not an export of your links.

    Hi Yannik!

Some time ago I did sent you the other info you’ve requested … do you have an update on this?

    Thanks, Arno
