All images are not displaying in Chrome/Firefox 404 error

  • All images on the site are not displaying in Chrome and Firefox. Dev inspector console shows 404 on all images. There is no problem viewing images in Safari.

    When trying to access image file directly in the browser, getting [an error occurred while processing this directive].

    Also Media Library is not showing any images, just spinning like loading and nothing happens.

    Found that renaming public_html/wp-content/.htaccess file resolves the problem in the browser. Images are displaying correctly on the site. But Media Library is still empty.

    What’s the cause of these 404 errors.
