• What I did and what happened: During the installation (using wp-activate.php), none of the image links work. I continued the install, and the issue remains after installation (naturally, but I still can’t fix it..).

Experience level: This is my 10th installation of WordPress, and the second time I have installed it in my localhost server folders. In other words..not my first rodeo.

Yes I am doing a completely fresh install: To prepare for this installation, I dropped the old database I used before, and deleted the WordPress folder. Then, I installed the WordPress 3.3.1 files to my localhost folder. Next, set up a new database and added a user to it with full privileges.

Additional Info: During and after installation, this issue occurs in all screens. Heck, even the WordPress logo doesn’t show! Due to the globality of the issue, I double-checked that my locally-hosted Joomla! installation works; and it does. This issue also occurs regardless of which browser I am using (tested with Chrome, IE, and Opera).

Right-clicking any image (to inspect) shows the links are definitely broken. And when I say “broken” I mean the links show as broken, not that the actual links shouldn’t be working – because the local path is definitely correct (I can navigate to them using Windows Explorer and see that they are valid image files and everything).

    System Info:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, SP 1
    XAMPP: 1.7.7
    PHP: 5.3.8

Completely open to ideas at this point..

Uhhhmm…okayyyyy. Suddenly, the problem went away on its own. :/
I’d really like to know “why?” if someone cares to enlighten me; and so I am marking this thread as “Not a support question”.

I didn’t do anything between posting here, and coming back to check this forum for answers. I go and decide to give it another go on my own after seeing no replies, and magically it works.

I guess I should be happy, and yet I’m not. Probably because this unexplained issue caused me an entire day of frustration, and lost work!! (yes, I work on Saturdays..)

I mean, heck: the only reason I did a WordPress reinstall in the first place was my old local WP installation (which was deleted before the previous post) had been edited by me as an experiment, and I wanted to start over with a stock WP install, and then restore a backup of a customer’s live site for local development.

After seeing the issue I mentioned above, I had made sure to reset my Apache server, then rebooted my computer entirely. And only then did I post here, and even after my original post the problem had persisted. Now, today I wake up and suddenly the problem is gone?!?

What the heck would cause otherwise good image links to stop working on the local machine to which the website is installed?? Keep in mind the issue was specific to WordPress.
