• I already have a live blog at https://etereoreal.com that does not use a CMS. All I want to use WordPress for is to enable visitors to leave comments on my posts pages. What is the simplest way to do this, and is it possible without having to create a new WordPress theme? Thanks!

  • Is that a WP blog? Then just enable the comments…

You might be better to use something like Haloscan which lends itself to what you need much better than WP does in this situation.

No moshu, it is not a WP blog. The entire site is maintained by hand.

Thanks podz, I’ll check out haloscan. I’ll check back in real soon on how it works for me.

Thanks podz. HaloScan is a good solution for getting comments up and running quickly, but it relies on JavaScript doesn’t write the comments directly onto the post page.

I guess a better way to phrase my question is: How do I merge a currently-existing, completely manually handled site to WordPress?

All the documentation I’ve read deals with how to transfer a site from another blogging tool to WordPress, or how to build a WordPress site from the ground up. In my case I already have my site pages created and the stylesheets they use. I suspect might have to create themes or something, but can anyone nudge me in the right direction?

To bring(?) your existing blog into WP – it’s not an easy task. You have a lot html files I guess, while WP is storing all the content in the MySQL database.
Practically you have to find a tool that would convert all your “posts” into something that can be imported int eh WP database.
By searching you will find many similar requests – I just can’t remember a bulletproof solution.

Alrighty, I know I have some work ahead of me. ?? Thanks moshu and podz for your help.

It looks like really you just need a guestbook type script embedded under your posts…

Maybe…. you could play around with the principles used in this tutorial?
