I just signed up with a host company to set up my own website. I just got the key to the C-Panel and everything and I was set to go. I went to You-tube to watch videos on how to set up websites. One was particularly good about using WordPress to set up a website.

Long story short I went ahead and used Softaculous on my CPanel to install WordPress 3.5. At the end of the process it gave me a link to follow to view my website. When I clicked on the link all I saw was:

    Index of/
    . cgi-bin

These are the steps I have taken to resolve the issue:
    1. Deleting the WordPress and reinstalling it via
    a. Softaculous again, and also
    b. manually through The File Manager after downloading the zip file from WordPress

The funny thing is I can see the WordPress files under Public_html. But no matter what I do all I see when I go to my website is:

    Index of/
    . cgi-bin

Now I must admit I am not terribly good at computer language, so I am sure there is something I am doing terribly wrong, though – the truth be told – I don’t know what it is I am not doing right.

I don’t know whether it is possible to give me directions from this skeletal information. If need be I am ready to supply more information. I am almost ready to jump off the ledge; don’t worry, it is only a window ledge and I live on the ground floor.

  • Hi MaryMagdalene,

No need to jump off the ledge. There are a number of possible reasons why you are encountering the problem. See if this post helps you: After Installing Only See the Parent Directory Listing and No Blog. Your issue is very similar and the solution can be contained within that post, or it can at least point you in the right direction.

Problem resolved. It had nothing to do with WordPress. I switched hosters but forgot to switch nameservers. The nameserver has to be switched to the new host once you are no longer using the servers of the old host. So just in case anyone faces the same problem, this is one likely cause.
