All Featured image to be a link and not only the ” very sad” white cross

hi we bought the PRO Version we would like Featured image ( i mean all image space ) no matter in which size ) to be a link and not only like now the link is the ” very sad” white cross that become even more sad on roll over when he becomes red.
I try to explain in another way , We use layout 1 as we like ( bigger photo with colored bar below but we want all the image to be a link like in layout 1 ,so no white red cross
