Algolia Injecting Title into Pinterest Pin

We’re looking to check on this as it’s not something we’ve intentionally put in, so we need to determine where the source may be and why this is happening. Stay tuned.

I’m using jetpack social sharing pins…not sure if the sharing pin is somehow grabbing the algolia title, although it didn’t before

Seems that this algolia tagline is all over pinterest, so it must have been going on for a long time:

hosted site search & discovery for companies of all sizes

I completely removed the algolia plugin and then wp_optimzed, deleted cache and it still happens…but randomly, I can make the same pin twice and one time it will be correct and the next it will pull in the algolia tagline

Interesting and unfortunate all at the same time. I haven’t heard back yet from others involved with the plugin, so I don’t have any followup at the moment. I’ll try to check on things tomorrow.

Found this issue after debugging the setup on a client’s site as well. Rich pins with Pinterest would not validate with the plugin active. Disable the plugin and everything goes back to normal and validation works again.

I have the exact same problem. All our pins have their title replaced with “Hosted Site Search & Discovery for Companies of all sizes”.

If we disable the plugin everything works correctly. Its happening in the last month or so.

The WP Search with Algolia plugin itself has no control over the media or text that Pinterest uses for pins.

The Pinterest issue described appears to be related to Pinterest’s scraper being a little too aggressive and following a link offsite in the autocomplete template.

Once we identified what the issue appeared to be, we moved the autocomplete template (and the Algolia JS libs) from the header to the footer, where Pinterest’s scraper has less of a chance of accidentally following that link offsite.

We have just released WP Search with Algolia 1.5.0 to implement that change.

Please note that Pinterest does cache the results of URLs it has previously scraped. We have no control over that.
