• I wasn’t sure if this was the right place to post this so apologies if it isn’t.

A post on my blog recently got picked up on social media and got some great traffic (about 41K unique hits). I now have a pretty consistent readership and wanted to switch to a self-hosted www.remarpro.com site from my free wordpress.com hosted site. My only concern is that if I switch from my current wordpress.com site, my Alexa score (which has skyrocketed recently) will go back to having no ranking data.

From what I gather, Alexa measures traffic to a particular domain and since all the traffic I’ve picked up has been to a .com domain I purchased though WordPress, it shouldn’t be affected. But I wanted to play it safe and be sure.

    Please help.

  • Your Alexa won’t be affected if domain stays the same.

You should not worry that much about it though, it’s not really relevant unless you are looking to sell your website.

Your Alexa score will be different when you switch to a self-hosted solution.

That said, Alexa is just one of many performance indicators (and not an incredibly reliable one either). Don’t let that impact your decision to switch.
