I received a Wordfence alert that concerns me very much:

This email was sent from your website “C.S.Esterel” by the Wordfence plugin at Wednesday 3rd of May 2017 at 04:27:37 AM
The Wordfence administrative URL for this site is: – here it listed mine
A user with username – here it listed my username – who has administrator access signed in to your WordPress site.
    User IP: my IP
    User hostname: my hostname
    User location: my location

However, at that time I was asleep. Then I received another notification that said the same for 12:27 pm, at what time I also was asleep.

I am very concerned now, especially since it shows all the correct information, sign in, IP etc. What could it mean, am I being hacked?

    Thank you

  • Hi fleurette,
Let’s go through these possible reasons first:
    – It could be that these emails are delayed for some reason before being sent out, you can check the “Live Traffic” log or even your server access log and confirm these logins were at the same time.
    – Or you can even try to login in with your account and make sure the notification email is sent at the same time.
    – Of course you don’t share your login credentials with someone else, or you don’t have your username/password saved in your browser, so there is no possibility that someone else managed to log in at this time, right?
    – I also want to make sure that Wordfence is configured correctly to detect IPs on your website, this can be checked from (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics => IPs) and check if this is your correct IP being detected there or not.
    – In general, it’s recommended to change your user account password and follow these tips mentioned in “How to Secure Your WordPress Working Environment” article.

Let me know how it goes,
    Thanks.

    Hello,
thank you for your reply to my inquiry. I noticed that usually I get an email notification straight away when I log into my site, but I notice that the times it shows are really strange. Perhaps it has to do with wherever these notifications are coming from. For instance, it said 2:15am last night, while I was in my site in the evening. My Wordfence is set correctly to detect my IP. Thank you for sending the link, could it perhaps be just a matter of a different time zone or so?

    Thanks again.

Please make sure you set the “Timezone” settings in (WordPress Dashboard > Settings => General) correctly.

    Thanks.
