• I’ve had Akismet running on my site just fine for quite some time (about a year) and today I got flooded with spam comments that Akismet.

I checked my Plugin area and under Akismet it says

The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration.

I’m wondering what it is that I need to do to check my server configuration, or what that even means? The only thing that I can correlate with the Akismet changes is using my sidebar widgets (which before today I was simply using the theme editor to add html code to make my sidebar.)

Does anyone know what is going on, and why it won’t accept my key all of a sudden?

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Valerie

  • It means your server isn’t connecting to akismet.com , so it cant spamcheck.
If it’s a dedicated server, then ask your server administrator. Check your error logs, too.

I have YAHOO HOSTING – and I have several wordpress blogs hosted there. I am having this problem too. It started last night and is still going on.

I am getting the same error message when I try to install Askimet on a new blog I’m trying to register. I can’t install WordPress Stats either. I get messages that my key is invalid, and that there’s a PARSE ERROR.

I’m wondering if the problem has got to be on the wordpress side. I have installed two new blogs, and they are not coming up on wordpress.com where it says “Your Blogs” and lists my blogs.

When I try to install WordPress Stats, I first get a message that says:
Error from last API Key attempt:
Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error – could not open socket: 60 Operation timed out)

When I try a second time, I get something about a Parse Error.

ALSO – on the “dashboard” page of all of the blogs, no info on the bottom is loading. The WordPress Development Blog box is empty – it just has a message that reads, “An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later.”

Anyone have ANY Idea what is going on with wordpress? Everything was fine until last night.

    Hmmm,

My blog is hosted with Yahoo Hosting too. The problem seemed to resolve itself, perhaps Yahoo was having issues with WordPress or something? It says it accepts my key now, and I’m not getting flooded with spam anymore.

If it starts up again, I’ll check the error logs like you said.

    Thanks for the help,

    Valerie

I’m getting the same error message, “The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration.”

My web host is not Yahoo but SiteGround. Seems to me a problem with the WordPress software or plugin. Could someone help?
