• This was true of my last version with WP 2.0.6, and now I’m having the same problem with 2.1 as well. When I go to comments and then to Akismet, it tells me how many it’s blocked, but doesn’t give me any further information.

What gives? Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Configuration only gives me a place to put a key.

Right, that’s where I’m seeing the number but no actual record so I can tell what it is and whether it’s a false positive or not.

The only thing I see is “Akismet has caught ‘x’ spam.” No controls to do anything with it.

Next to the “Akismet Spam” in the menu, there is a number. That number is how much spam is sitting there in the queue. It’ll be deleted automatically after some amount of time.

Obviously, if the number is currently zero, then there is no spam to see and so you won’t see any.

I’m having the same problem with Akismet. Earlier today it said it caught 6 spam since installed. Just a few minutes ago it’s now saying 12. But when I go to see what spam was caught to make sure it really is spam I do not see any listed. The only options on the configuration page are to put in the API key (done) and to automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month (unchecked).

I want a spam catcher that will allow me to see the spam before deleting it. I want control over that.

Okay, I think I see some of the confusion:
Akismet has two entirely different pages on the Dashboard.

The first one is under Plugins->Akismet Configuration. This is the configuration page where you can put in the API key and such.

The second one is under Comments->Akismet Spam. This is where you can see what spam it has caught.

Also, if you’ve installed WordPress 2.1, it included Akismet 2.0 in it. Make sure you are running the latest version of Akismet. You can find its version number on the Plugins page.

I am running Akismet 2.0 and in Comments->Akismet Spam it show only the number of spam caught and nothing else. It does not show the spam.. just the number only.

What number does it show in the header?

Look at this image and tell me how it looks different from yours:

I don’t know what you mean by number in the header. The header of what? I’m sorry if I seem dense, but it’s 1:30am and I’m tired ??

As for the screenshot it’s like mine except mine never shows the latest spam or a delete button. It just shows the number caught which is now up to 18, but no list of spam.

At the top of that image, there’s a line where it says:
    Comments Awaiting Moderation(0) Akismet Spam(2).

Is there a number next to “Akismet Spam”? If it says “Akismet Spam(0)” then you don’t have any current spam to look at. That’s what I’m getting at.

It says 0. The thing I’m getting at is this: On the main page of the dashboard it will show “x” amount of spam caught. I will go into comments Akismet Spam and check on the tab it says 0 new even though the spam count has gone up. Akismet deletes it before I can check the spam. I know Akismet deletes after 15 days or something like that but it’s not even keeping it that long.

Stupid question, but are you using any other spam plugin besides Akismet such as Spam Karma? What I’ve experienced is that when the settings in Spam Karma deletes whatever is in the queue, Akismet’s list gets purged at the same time. If I look in Akismet first, I’ll often see items listed. But if I go into Spam Karma, delete items and THEN go into Akismet, Akismet’s queue is empty. Hope this helps…

No.. I wasn’t using any other spam plugins. I’m about to try and find something else to use.

Ok.. update.. I got it to work. I deleted Akismet and downloaded a fresh copy and uploaded, activated and did a test post. Akismet caught it and I was able to see it.

    Whew! I’m glad that’s overwith!… *I hope*

Thanks to all who tried to help.
