[Plugin: Akismet] Akismet causes admin to time out

Recently, my host has moved my account from one server to another. Along the way, my WordPress sites were no longer functioning as expected. The main issue is that after successfully logging in, my admin pages would time out. After removing the plugins & themes and then adding them back one by one, I discovered that the Akismet plugin is causing the problem. Has anyone else run into this before? I’m working with my host to resolve this, but they’ve asked me to come here for a solution. Honestly, I didn’t have this problem until after the server move, but I don’t understand why the Akismet plugin (and only that plugin…so far) seems to cause the time out issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
