    Hi,

I would love to see a new feature where an Ajax pop up appears telling user that they earned an achievement or points and as a result the user would see their points updated. It would be neat if it was also associated with a sound. I think this feature exists in the WordPress WPAchievements plugin.

    Best regards,
    Belal

  • I sent the following to badges.org/contact, but they told me to post here so “Mike can offer his expertise.”:

In truth, knowing this feature was in the works was one of the main reasons that I finally jumped onboard with Badge OS. But I have a few pre-sales questions because, let’s face it, $65 is pretty steep given that fact that the other WordPress badging solutions (e.g. WP Achievements and Achievements for WordPress) offer this feature by default.

    1. Is the notification mobile responsive?
    2. Can the displayed pop up be custom styled easily?
    3. Will ya’ll continue to develop this add on?

Hi kcurisjr, thank you for your questions. The plugin overall is still pretty new to me as well, and I haven’t kicked its tires very much yet. I’ll answer the best I can.

I do not know, at the moment, exactly how responsive it is. I do know that it uses thickbox, which is still packaged as part of WP Core. That may be enough to answer your question, but I don’t know your previous experiences with it. I would need to get a test site going that I could visit on mobile to be certain.

From best I can tell, you should be able to affect the css used inside the modal popup. It’ll have html markup just the same, with many classes and IDs that you could use for selectors. If you do indeed purchase the addon and need help customizing part, let me know over on its premium forum and I’ll help you there.

As bugs and fixes need to be made, we’ll definitely be updating it as necessary. If we come up with new ideas and features for it, we’ll look into upgrading and implementing those. I can’t guarantee everything proposed would go in though.

    Hi all !

That’s wonderful news ! I was also looking forward this release. One question though : is it necessary to have posted here before the release to be eligible for the discount ? I do also have the same questions as other users (responsive ? how customizable ?).

One suggestion : I don’t think there is for now, but it would be really nice to have an add-on bundle ! I am completely ready to pay for some of them but if you are not an organization or a professional, every singular add-on is quite expensive. T_T So yeah, a bundle, or maybe another type of license for individuals a bit cheaper would be great. ??

    An alternative

For people who really can’t afford the plugin right now. I would like to introduce a possible free alternative that I have been using for a while. Just to make it clear though, you won’t get all the bells and whistles of @learningtimes add-on. ??

It’s actually a combination of 2 plugins. Here is a light walkthrough :

    1. You have to use Buddypress and have notifications enabled,
    2. Install and enable the Buddypress Live Notification plugin : this will add a Facebook Like realtime notification for user,
    3. Install and enable the BadgeOS Buddypress Notifier : this will add on-site notifications when a user reaches an achievement with BadgeOS-Community.

    Et voilà !

    Pros & Cons

[Pro] I really like the Growl feeling of the notifications. I think I prefer it to a modal window. A possible future option for the “Congratulations” Add-on ?
[Pro] Lightweight (I think) and easy to set up : install and enable, done !

[Con] No picture of the badge
[Con] No link to the achievement page
[Con] A big con here : the notification will be lost when the badge is earned by an action taking you to another page.

That’s all what I can think about for now. This list is based on my sole experience and I didn’t try the “Congratulations” add-on yet (hope I will be eligible for the discount ?? ). So don’t take my words for it and do some tests. ??

    Happy BadgeOsing !

    Fred

PS : @michael Wonderful support here ! I wouldn’t trust badgeOS as much as I do without you around. ??

Fred, I don’t believe they’re limiting the discount by purchase, though I would believe they’re only offering it for a certain amount of time, so I’d email as soon as possible to get in on it while you can.

Bundles are definitely a viable option, and I’ll leave that decision up to the people behind BadgeOS.org to decide on.

Some quick thoughts regarding your solution mentioned above. If you have the achievement ID available when the BP notification is being pushed out, you have access to pretty much every detail of the achievement. Achievements in our plugin are just posts in post types. So any functions that take a post ID to get information will work.

Thanks. I do the best I can with the support and take pride in how much I can help with.

Thanks for your answer and feedback Michael. I’m going to contact them right now then ! ??
