I want to explore the possibility of an unexpected behavior, the fixing of which could increase my productivity.

Let me explain the issue carefully first:
    1. I have made a series of post “drafts” that I intend to use as de-facto “templates.”
    2. Within them, I have set things such as a title, categories, a password, some initial text within the body, and a unique custom image for use in the AIOSEO plugin for a social media “card.”
    3. At this point, everything looks great.
    4. I then, within the WordPress list of “Posts” section,” click on “copy” beneath one of the individual drafts, and it opens a new copy of that draft.
    5. All of the settings I set in the draft are present in the copy with the exception of the custom image set for the social media card. I have to manually repeat that step.

I am drawing the following conclusion: clicking on the WordPress “copy” link initiates a set of commands that copies a specific set of database entries from the draft to a new post, but must not copy whichever database entries are used by that plugin to store the custom image selected for the social media card.

If this conclusion is true, is there a way add a code snippet that will also copy those database entries to a new post when I create a copy of a draft?

    Kindest Regards,

    Dereck

I have a way I can solve this (in my own use case here) that won’t involve having to modify the nature of WordPress’s behavior:

Since (in my case), the drafts I am using are all of the same “type,” and were all going to have the same social media card anyways, I will set the default card for “all posts” in AIOSEO to the card I want to use for these.

That should produce the behavior I am seeking.

@dereckcoatney if you duplicate/clone a post, all AIOSEO data should be carried over, including the social image.

Note that we only support the duplication features of the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin and WooCommerce. What plugin are you using to clone posts or is it something you’ve written yourself?

    Hi @dereckcoatney,

We haven’t heard back from you in a week. I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.

    Thanks! ??
