Hi I before the Avada update I had managed to get my website to load in just under a second using a combination of Autoptimize and WP Rocket, the css and js were combined resulting in less resources to load and a much smaller filesize.

Since updating to Avada 7.11.3 there was an issue and Avada support disabled all my plugins and edited the website via FTP & the website filesize and load time has quadrupled.

So I am once again going through my settings trying to get the website to load in under 1 second again. I have the paid version of WP Rocket installed together with Autoptimize. The minify settings in WP Rocket for both JS & CSS are disabled to not interfere with Autoptimize.

in Autoptimize the Optimise Javascript code is selected and so is Agregate JS files, Optimise CSS Code and Aggregate CSS files are also both selected and so is eliminate render blocking CSS.

Under HTML Options Optimise HTML Code & Optimise HTML Code? Also minify inline JS/ CSS are also both selected.

Under Misc Options Save aggregated script/CSS as static files & Minify excluded CSS and JS files & Enable 404 fallbacks & Enable configuration per post/ page are all enabled.

In WP Rocket under File Optimisation only Optimise CSS delivery > Remove Unused CSS is selected.

However the CSS files and JS files are not being combined as Pingdom is now showing 4.7 mb pages size (instead of 1.1mb previously) and 200 Requests (instead of 40 previously).

GTMetrix shows 146 resources found: 60 css files being loaded and 68 JS files being loaded & 18 images, with Aggregate js and css this should be just 20 resources, why are they not being combined?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

guess first question is; what changes did Avada support make? because it is likely the problem is due to those? :-/

I dont know exactly they reuploaded files that seem to not download correctly during the update. What im trying to understand is why the js files and css files are not aggregating.

(I only mentioned Avada updating to 7.11.3 to provide background & context)

Typically AO does not aggregate if:
    1. the files aren’t local to your site (not the case based on the HTML)
    2. if the configuration says it not to aggregate (not the case based on your input)
    3. if the configuration excludes files from being optimized -> did the exclusions change?
    4. if a 3rd party (plugin or theme) uses code to hook into AO’s API to tell it not to optimize -> this *might* have been introduced when Avada support came in to make changes

    I would propose 2 tests:
    * does aggregation kick in when WP Rocket is temporarily disabled?
    * does aggregation kick in when you temporarily switch from Avada to a “stock” theme (e.g. twenty-twentythree or similar)?

I have disabled WP Rocket and the loadtime goes down (not sure if this is a caching issue) but the filesize and requests do not change

OK, so not WP Rocket, next up a quick theme switch?

    Thread Starter designsonline

    (@designsonline)

I switched to the default twenty twenty-four theme and re-ran but it showed the image from Avada & even higher requests so I suspect there is a something going on with the cache, but this is a live web design company website so I have to switch the Avada theme back on

In that case try on a staging site designsonline ?

I have set up a staging site, what settings do you recommend I use?

The goal is to understand why JS/ CSS isn’t aggregated, so I would try with the same settings as your live site for now?

    any news about this @designsonline ? ??
