    Hi there,

I just wish to make you aware of a problem I’ve been encountering with my site recently. I’ve been having an issue where it appears that the Age Gate plugin is somehow preventing people from accepting/rejecting my Cookie Policy/GDPR notification, and therefore preventing people from being able to access the site.

Using both the Cookie Notice & Compliance for GDPR by Hu-manity and Real Cookie Banner by Devowl.io, the buttons to accept, reject etc when the Privacy Policy is displayed do not close the pop up or banner. With the privacy policy overlaid on the Age Gate screen, it prevents users from being able to enter their date of birth and access my site.

When disabling the Age Gate plugin, it is possible to close the Privacy Policy pop-ups of both those plugins I mention without any issue, leading me to think that it is Age Gate that is somehow causing a conflict with these plugins?

Please could you advise me of a possible solution, as being a brewery website, it is rather necessary to have an age gate active. However, I have had to disable the plugin for now to allow the website to still be accessible.

My website runs on Virtue Premium by Kadence, and other plugins I have on the website include WP Rocket, Elementor and Elementor Pro page builder, Woocommerce and several Woocommerce add-ons, and Yoast SEO. I am happy to provide more technical details if required.

    Many thanks.

    Hi @jhsingo,

Age Gate has a thing call “Focus Trap”, you can disable it in the advanced settings to see if that’s the problem.

    Thanks

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for letting me know – I’ve tried disabling that option, but unfortunately I’m still having issues. Linked screenshot is how the plugin is currently displaying on the front end of my site – and it is still making it impossible to click the privacy policy buttons, even with “Focus Trap” disabled.

Could you provide me with another solution please, or alternative another method I can contact on to provide you with login details for my site?

    Many thanks.

    Hi @jhsingo,

Can you try clearing your cache (WP Rocket?)? Compare these two

    vs

https://dronevalleybrewery.com/?v=123456 (that had age gate just now but now doesn’t)

    Hi Phil,

Yes, I have been regularly clearing the site’s cache. However, when loading the site in a ‘in private’ window, the front end of the site has still been displaying incorrectly with age gate enabled. I have temporarily disabled the plugin for now to allow users to still be able to access the site.

When I view in a private window I see:

    1. The age gate with no styling applied
    2. The focus trap still enabled (hence the cookie policy being unclickable) – you can see this in the age_gate_params object – trap_focus: 1

Can you try disabling WP Rocket temporarily to get a clean version? It definitely seem like a cache issue as I can see settings you’re not expecting.

    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Phil,

I’ve disabled WP Rocket as you instructed, and yes, that does appear to have fixed the problem with Age Gate and the cookie policy with focus trap disabled. However, this isn’t an ideal solution with WP Rocket being a paid plugin necessary for my website. Would you suggest I now contact WP Rocket to see if they can suggest what might be causing the conflict?

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,

Glad that’s at least partially solved things to the point the root cause seems something in the caching.

Yeah I’d give them a nudge, it feels like something either isn’t purging properly, or maybe combining right if it does script and style concatenation. Suspect it’s just going to be config somewhere, but I’m not massively familiar with WP Rocket so they’d definitely be the best bet.

    Cheers

Okay, I’ll get onto them and see what they say. Many thanks for the prompt and helpful support up to now – first class. Keep up the good work! I’ll mark this thread as resolved as it doesn’t appear to be an issue with your plugin as I first thought.

    Thanks again,
    James
