    Hi everyone.

Over the past few months work has been going into a new version of Age Gate to make it faster, easier to manage (for me) and generally better in pretty much every area.

As this is a major release it should be seen as a breaking change. While many things will carry over seamlessly, some things may not. Primarily if you are using and hooks for customising the plugin. These things are still possible, just may be slightly different to how they were in version 2.

With such a potential impact on so many users, the V3 development build is not available for anyone to test and report any feedback.

Usage in production sites is not advised at this stage, but anyone building a new site may benefit from this version.

    Here’s a bit of a list of what’s new:

    • Under the hood, everything has been rewritten, streamlined or just generally improved.
    • Far more control over layout is controllable by admins with many things being changed by settings rather than needing custom CSS
    • All the can now be seen in realtime in the Customiser
    • Developers can completely overload the template, should they choose
    • Add custom attributes to the form element easily
    • Addresses some redirection issues not possible to fi in v2
    • Various other features I’ll document asap

    Some caveats:

    • The current dev build requires at least PHP 7.4
    • PHP 8 will throw some warnings, but hopefully these should be resolved soon
    • IE11 is not support in this version. 2021 should see the end of this browser and Age Gate 3 reflects that at present.
    • There’s no documentation… yet
    • Addons such as regions, logs and user registration are not currently compatible, but are being refactored

It’s been pretty well tested, but it’s always good to get real world information back.

If you want to test, evaluate, or make any suggestions, head over and read the information on the Age Gate site to get a version.

    Thanks for your continued awesomeness!

    Phil

This confused me until I realised you probably mean it’s *now* available?
