After Uprgrading to 2.8.1 Error Message in Browser about Redirect Loop

  • We just uprgraded to 2.8.1 and when we view our blog online some of the links in our Categories list of links do not work. The rest of the site seems to be fine from what I can tell.

    The message in firefox is:

    Redirect Loop
    Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

    The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

    Anyone have this problem? Admin section works fine. Is it a plugin problem?? Something that can be fixed in the htaccess file? Thanks so much. it’s driving us crazy we can’t figure it out. Thanks again.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

    i did. i found the plugin that was causing the problem. The Redirection plugin. I deactivated it. I then auto-updated the latest version via the admin panel for this plugin, but it still didn’t fix the problem. So I contacted the makers, and they responded promptly. It was helpful:

    Redirection is only activated when you have a redirection for a particular URL. I would imagine that somewhere in one of your Redirection groups you have a URL that is catching some links it shouldn’t be – you should delete anything you do not need. Pay particular attention to regular expressions as they can be very greedy.

    Not sure where my Redirection groups is located though. I”ll find out, but if anyone know, let me know, thanks.
