• The upgrade went badly..The screen said successful but there was a constant database error on the front page saying there was a syntax error. I just started over again and installed fresh and lost everything which wasn’t that much which is why I did that.

The only problem now is when I click on any internal link in the blog…to a page for example, I get a box asking me if I want to save or cancel (at least in Mozilla). If I choose cancel and try again, the link works. The link might work the first time or it might bring up that box which says ‘You have chosen to open….which is a: application/octet-stream from: https://www.shamanic-shift.org/ Would you like to save this file? SAVE FILE or CANCEL

Does anyone know why this is happening?

  • On install4free installs I’ve done lately that usually means the mysql version is too low or borderline. Installing the last, v2.0.7, works great.
It could also be because your php memory is too low (4M or 8M). Ask your host to bump it up to 16M.

My hosting service admits that both the php memory and version of MySQL is outdated. I finally got to a tech support guy there who knew something about WordPress and he said he knows it is indeed one of those two situations (mentioned in the reply above) causing this issue.

He told me put in a request for upgrading but mentioned this would not happen soon so I am not upgrading WP on any of my other WP sites.

I now recommend vehemently that anyone who wants to host a WP blog stick with the hosting services recommended by WP! (This is a big ‘live and learn’ for me!)

    Thanks for the guidance!
