After updating the BPS plugin, what (if anything) needs to be done?

    Please refresh my memory: after installing an updated BPS plugin, I notice the permissions on my .htaccess file changes from 404 to 644. I can easily fix that, of course. But does this change indicate that OTHER things may have also changed as a result of the update and need to be addressed?

    For example, do new .htaccess files need to be created and backed up?

    During a BPS upgrade the root .htaccess file is unlocked so that it can be written to. If you have AutoLock turned On, on the htaccess Core >>> htaccess File Editor tab page then your root .htaccess file will be automatically locked again after root .htaccess file writing is completed during BPS upgrades. New .htaccess files do not need to be created or backed up after BPS upgrades.

    The htaccess file Backup and Restore feature is designed for troubleshooting purposes. ie you want to troubleshoot whether the root and/or wp-admin .htaccess files are causing an issue/problem. You would backup your .htaccess files, put the site in Default Mode, test things, use the Restore .htaccess files feature to restore .htaccess files. Just a quicker way to do troubleshooting. You do not really need to have backup copies of your .htaccess files since you can always just click the AutoMagic buttons to create new .htaccess files.
