• WordPress 4.5.3 running ColorMag theme.

When I edit a page and then click “update”, I receive a 404 Not Page Not Found error. Is this indicative of something in particular?

  • Does this happen on all pages or just certain ones?

Try going to Settings > Permalinks and Saving – don’t change anything just save. Does it still happen?

If you go to Settings > Permalinks and change to the default permalinks does it still happen?

I did as you suggested by just re-saving the Permalink structure and no error was given. Saving Permalinks to default will have a catastrophic effect on my inbound links and indexed pages, so I am going to respectfully decline to complete this piece of troubleshooting.

The error appears to occur with any PAGE new or, revised. But, NOT occur with Posts.

Did the error start after updating the site or making other changes?

You could try contacting the host to see if there is an issue or something that changed on their end.

You could also try updating manually

but make sure you backup everything first.

I have the same problem on a site I have run for many years, maritimeradio.org, which uses WP 4.6.1 and the Twenty Ten theme. The site has no posts, only pages.

    I have deactivated all plugins.

My permalinks were set to “Post Name” and always worked fine. But yesterday when I edited a page and clicked Update I got a 404 page.

    Resaving Permalinks made no difference.

But after changing Permalinks to “Plain”, if I edit a page and click Update no changes are saved and I get taken to my All Posts page in WP admin.

Clearing browser cache has no effect.

This has been happening more and more frequently as the core framework has been updated. As far as I can tell, it is not related to any particular theme, and even on sites without a single plugin, it happens.

It’s annoying as hell, but the page does get updated. Still, it’s indicative of some sort of failing in the core framework, imho.

I’m getting the same issue with preview it opens an other tab and gives a 404 instead on all pages and posts. If i try and change the permalinks whebn i try and save it switches to a 404 not found sam as when i try to update pages or posts.
