After running the latest automatic updates of WordPress and the Twenty Twenty theme last week, I have started to receive notifications from my Google Search Console, telling me that my website suddenly has 2 errors in Mobile Usability:

    – “Text too small too read”
    – “Clickable elements are too close together”

Both errors apply to 1 page only so far: https://gaininggoodwill.com/guides/co-creation-growing-your-business-with-customer-approval/ I haven’t touched or changed the contents of this page for months. Never caused an issue before. I am assuming that this is simply the first page the Google crawler found, more pages may cause the same error when the crawler returns to re-index the rest of my content.

When I visited my website after the automatic updates, I already noticed the (default) text of Twenty Twenty being smaller on mobile, but at first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Now that I have also received these error notifications in Google Search Console, I feel confident that your update has indeed changed something that triggers these errors.

Has this been a intended change? If so, why? Apparently you have made your theme slightly less Google-/mobile-friendly. Not what you want, I’m guessing.

I would urge you to change the text size on mobile back to what it was before.

Problem vanished out of the blue, after 3 days of the aforementioned error notifications in Google Search console. Did not touch one character on any webpage. Strange.

It happens quite frequent that google changes their metrics. The developers of the WordPress themes highly value accessibility in all ways, so I would rather tip on some shinanigans on Googles end.

The search and menu button texts are a bit small according to Lighthouse tests, so maybe this triggered the errors. But since this was randomly resolved, we will never know ??
