    Hi,
We’ve copied the whole website (cPanel backup) to a second server. Database connection and domain name was restored, but:

    1) All sidebars developed with from Custom sidebars disappeared.
    2) Plus the plugin disappeared from “Appearance” menu in wp-admin.
    3) Plugin exist in list of plugins!!
    4) No Custom sidebars in Widget menu (Only when initial opens this menu – all Sidebars/Widgets are showing up for 1-2 sec, and after that Custom Sidebars are disappearing.??!!)

    We tried:
    a) Activate/deactivate the plugin
    b) Upgrade to the newest version
But still it does not working

Any ides how to fix this ?

  • Hey there anenov,

    How are you doing today?

Did you install any new plugins or themes on the new server?

Only when initial opens this menu – all Sidebars/Widgets are showing up for 1-2 sec, and after that Custom Sidebars are disappearing

From this part I’m assuming that this is either a conflict with another plugin or your theme or with the new server configuration so we might need to test for conflicts.

Before we do that can you tell me when this happens can you see any JS errors in the browser console? You can find more info on how to do this in Chrome for example here https://developer.chrome.com/devtools/docs/console

    Please let me know ??

    cheers,
    Bojan

As I mentioned – we did not change any plugin or theme options, just restored a backup.

There is no visible JS errors on the website or admin menu

From Console – it shows only one error – “…. pgw-slider/jquery.min.js 404 (Not Found) ” but, this is something we already have on other working site as well.

Something interesting i see now – when i go to Widgets menu of WP-ADMIN,
    i see a lot of

    – Inactive sidebar (not used)
    – Inactive sidebar (not used)
    – Inactive sidebar (not used)

and also I tried this , but:

“Accessibility mode is not supported by the Custom Sidebars plugin.
Click here to disable accessibility mode and use the Custom Sidebars plugin!”

    Hey again anenov,

Sorry for the delay and thanks for additional info ??

“Inactive sidebar (not used)” is something that should only happen when changing the theme. More specifically if a sidebar is renamed which actually happens when you migrate the site.

Premium version of the plugin does have import/export feature so you could definitely use that when migrating the site, luckily we do have a free trial active right now on WPMU DEV site so you can grab the premium version of the plugin so you can use import/export feature.

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    Hello All –

I have a similar situation. We have 10+ custom sidebars created/assigned to various pages. After a recent update, the sidebars disappeared. When I go to Appearance>Widgets, all custom sidebars are listed. However, all are now missing the ‘content’ field…

    https://prntscr.com/authle

Is it possible to restore these from a backup? If so, where is the custom sidebar data located? If possible, I’d like to avoid restoring/reverting my entire site.

    Thanks very much!

    JMM

    Hey there JMM,

What kind of update are you referring to? Usually something like this would happen if you switch the theme as I mentioned above.

Is it possible to restore these from a backup?

Plugin uses default WP tables so it would be difficult to restore only that. The best and easiest way to do this would be to export your sidebars via import/export function in premium version of the plugin, as I mentioned above you can test it out using the free trial that is available on WPMU DEV site.

    Cheers,
    Bojan
