When I go to /wp-admin, it just redirect to the home page not to the WordPress Dashboard. Any ideas?

I assume because I have the Login Redirect URL pointed to the home page.
So how would an admin, trying to get to the WordPress Dashboard be handled?

    Thanks, Dan

This plugin doesn’t redirect away from the /wp-admin/

If you’re using any membership type plugins, perhaps there’s a setting in those that is kicking users out of the admin area.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am using MemberPress. When I deactivate Memberpress, it still goes to the home page.

When I change the Login Redirect URL in Login or Logout Menu in settings
It redirects to whatever I put in this field. So it seam like the plugin is doing the redirect. (If put in other pages URLs and it always redirect to what I put in)

So just to make sure. if I go to mywebsite.com/wp-admin this should take me to the WordPress admin dashboard, no matter what is in the Login Redirect URL, correct?

    Thanks Dan

    Yes, that is correct.

This plugin does not redirect away from the /wp-admin/ URL. It only issues redirects when logging in, or logging out.

So I installed the plugin on my personal site with no Membership setup. When I go to /wp-admin and enter ID and Password it goes to my home page. Should it do this?

Since I have Login Redirect URL to point to my home page, will all requests (even /wp-admin) redirect to the home page?

Yes, when logging in – you’ll be redirected to whatever your login redirect URL is set to.

So if a person is trying to get to the WordPress admin dashboard they would.

    1) sign in at /wp-admin
    2) site redirects to home page
    3) enter /wp-admin again to get them to dashboard

Does this make sense? Most users I want to go to the home page, but for an admin who updates the website, I need them to go to dashboard.

    Thanks for all your help.

Yes, that is the correct order of events.

I apologize for mis-understanding what you’ve probably been trying to say all along. I thought you were saying you could not get to the /wp-admin/ at all – even when typing it in directly.

Now that I understand, I will look into not issuing my redirect if the current user is an Admin. That seems like a logical resolution to this.

After the next update (vs 1.1.1), Admins will not be redirected to the Login Redirect URL which should take you to the dashboard when logging in from /wp-admin/ or /wp-login.php

I released the new version yesterday FYI. Let me know if that fixes the issue after you’ve upgraded to vs 1.1.1.
