I think you put this in the wrong forum, you probably meant “Post Thumbnail Editor”.

What version of wordpress are you using?
What version of the plugin are you using?
    What browser are you using?
If the editor loads without any issues, enable debugging (Settings &rarr Post Thumbnail Editor) and then using Google Chrome or other network debugger, attempt a crop and capture what the server returns. It should have log messages attached. I can give you more information if you need it.

Forgive me for having only a basic understanding of WordPress my site was set up for me. I definitely don’t like having square thumbnails on my gallery page as this crops much of the image. So I installed Post Thumbnail Extras assuming it would help me correct this. I figured out how to make an image smaller and how to flip one upside down but I can’t figure out how to make a thumbnail 3/2 or 2/3 aspect.

I read that the image can’t be resized bigger but I thought the whole point was to be able to create suitably sized thumbnails, or am I missing something.

Incidentally I’m using the theme modularity lite child and I have the latest version.

    Many thanks in advance.

Using post-thumbnail-extras you can make a post-thumbnail in the correct aspect ratio via Settings → Media, however that doesn’t hook it into your theme. Usually themes have to be built with the ability to change the thumbnail size. If you wanted to use the thumbnail that you created you would have to modify the theme and find where it gets the post-thumbnail html, and change whatever thumbnail the theme used with your own.

Ok I guessed I missed the point of having the Post Thumbnail Extras Plugin. So I think you’re telling me I must have a different theme. Can I point out, my site is not a blog, I use it to portray photography so it’s is imperative that I should be able to create different sized thumbnails within a galleries page, as an example it is no use to me to be restricted to just 4/3 or 16/9 or 1/1. If I cannot do this with Modularity Lite Child can you suggest a theme.

I really appreciate the help, if I can’t sort this I will just ditch it all and start again somewhere else.

    Thanks in advance.

Post Thumbnails Extra gives you an easy way to create & edit post-thumbnails, as well as display them “in posts”. The biggest benefit IMO, is that you can avoid having HTML in your posts, which if you ever change themes or such (e.g. exporting/importing posts to & from another blog) it doesn’t affect your old posts.

Post Thumbnails Editor is a plugin that lets you edit the crop of a post thumbnail.

I think what you want to do, <i>might</i> be possible using stock wordpress functionality. Try modifying the thumbnail sizes (probably just the thumbnail one, but you might have to edit the medium or large ones…) in Settings → Media, to see if you can get the right effect. (You’ll probably want to make sure that the “crop” checkbox is set.
