Following the upgrade today to version 1.0.4 of elementor, a video (Vimeo) object with an image overlay no longer displays correctly, nor can the video be played. Instead of seeing the overlay image, I see the URL for the default elementor video at youtube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uOETcuFjbE (in other words, I see the URL displayed, not the video.
If I delete the image overlay, I still see only the text URL.
Now, the URL for my video is not, in fact, at Vimeo. It is at DailyMotion. And before the upgrade to 1.0.4, it worked fine.
If it cannot be made to work again using the Vimeo object, I would be happy to learn how the DailyMotion URL could be displayed.

  • What mechanism are you using to embed the video? Are you using a video element, an embed code inside a text or html element or some other method like a widget or a shortcode?

In your thread, you mention 3 different video sources. You provide a youtube url but later you mention Vimeo and then say it’s actually a DailyMotion url. To say the least I am thoroughly confused. (I see it’s the default Elementor youtube url, probably isolated to you using DM for the source) Can you provide a url of the problem?

Here is a site I built in Elementor using the video element w/ an overlay and it is working just fine in the now current 1.0.4:

The problem is simply that whereas before 1.0.4 was installed, I could display a DailyMotion hosted video by using the Vimeo video object. After 1.0.4 was installed, this no longer works. So I want to know if this is an inadvertent error on the part of Elementor or, if not, how I should display a video hosted at DailyMotion using Elementor.

I hadn’t tried that video source before I updated to 1.0.4, but I see what you mean in that only the url is displayed. Using the embed code from DM and an Elementor HTML element works but you have to set the height as it is not high enough (at least on the one I tried).

Anyway, what DOES work with the Elementor Video widget and the source set to Vimeo is to use the FULL URL from DM, in other words, UNCHECK the Short URL check box on the DM share tab … that long URL works fine ??

Something might have changed between the previous version and the current one but the above method does work.

    Cheers!

@snifflevalve Thanks Lyle! Yep, just confirmed long url works for me too. Good to know I can use DM source now too.

Thanks for that suggestion, Lyle. Things are sorted out now.
