Affiliate not being added at sign up

HI. When a new affiliate registers on my site they are not added to Mailchimp.
But if they log into their account and go to the affiliate area -> Settings and check to sign up to the newsletter list they are added.
So the API connection and list are correct, but for some reason when the affiliate registers it doesn’t trigger.
