I am not interested in your Affiliate Links feature. Is this enabled even though I do not have a Shareaholic profile? If so, are you doing this just to make people sign up? Think about it, it makes no sense that people need a profile only to turn this feature off, so I really hope this is not the case.

  • Hi @elpju – We definitely are not trying to bait you into signing up, but you’re totally right that it reads that way. Our intention was to offer a super easy feature that generates revenue for you without a lot of interference.

If you can give me a link to your site, I can disable this for you. I apologize for the inconvenience, too. We don’t want to force you into creating an account at all, so I will help you take care of this ??

Then why isn’t this option available in the wordpress plugin?

I have several sites, so I will create a profile, add my sites to that profile and deactivate affiliate links. It would be a lot easier if I could deactivate it in the plugin. Actually it shouldn’t be active in the first place, since I never agreed to this and feel kind of ‘tricked’ into it.

You should really consider making affiliate links deactivated by default if your intentions are genuine and want to keep people using your otherwise great plugin – I’m sure many people share my opinion.

Does anyone else want to share their thoughts on this?

@elpju – We added this feature on the front page of (Shareaholic) website settings to make it easier to find. However, the “Edit Share Button Settings” window in the plugin displays the advanced settings page of Shareaholic.com.

In other words: while catering to one group of users, we inadvertently left some out! Not our intention. I’ll make sure to bring this up with the team – it’s important!

Again: we are not trying to be sneaky and force you to create an account. Our intention was to take something our users have been asking for (ways to monetize their site), and make it super easy ??

Alright thanks for your quick response.

And by doing so you put all those users at risk of potential legal issues and loss of control. You need to right this wrong sooner rather than later. I keep reading your teams comments that “you’re listening” and that you’ll bring it up with the team.

Question: Are you in business FIRST and FOREMOST to help others? Or to make money? Because it’s sure looking like it’s the latter.
