I am looking for a new theme as I’ve been told that my existing theme (Rebalance by Automattic) is a bit dated (something about my horizontal nav being on 2 rows). Separately, I’ve discovered that the Rebalance theme hasn’t been updated in over two years with no plans to update it.

    1. Is this a relatively easy switch seeing that my current site is also compatible with Jetpack Portfolio Custom Post type? (I think most of my featured images are 1200px wide.)
    2. Can the filtering categories on the homepage be the Project Types from the Jetpack Portfolio?
    3. I notice that the tagline “A Free Portfolio Theme” is hidden from the mobile portrait viewport. Can this be brought back if desired? (How?)
    4. I too would like see a horizontal nav option, at least on desktop. As a budding UX Designer I might need to show that I know that it’s better to have visible navigation. (I do like your clean less-is-more design though! I’m torn!) One idea I’ve had is for a combo solution on desktop: A horizontal nav bar with the sub-menu items appearing in your left nav. (Material Design is sort of doing something similar. However I would prefer to have signifiers next to top level menu itons – e.g. a caret icon or something – to indicate where there are sub-menu items). Is this something that I could put forward as a feature request?
    5. Another feature request: An accordion block with your styling.
    6. Thanks so much, love the theme,
      Nicole

    Hi @nicolewp,

    Glad you like it!

    1. Yes, that should work without any issues.
    2. Yes, on the Portfolio archive page, the filter will show the Jetpack portfolio project types.
    3. You can, by adding the following CSS to the Customizer → Additional CSS field: .site-description { display: block !important; }
    4. I don’t have any plans to add a horizontal navigation option, so if that’s a must, I’d recommend that you look for a different theme. You could also create a child theme for Eksell that outputs a horizontal menu in the botton of the header. You can find a discussion about how to add one here.
    5. Themes aren’t allowed to add custom blocks, and Eksell doesn’t include style for blocks that aren’t included in WordPress Core (accordion blocks being one of the omissions), so I don’t have any plans on adding styles for accordions to the theme. Most custom accordion blocks with minimal block styles should fit in with the rest of the Eksell styling pretty well, though.

    Hi Anders,

Thank you for your reply. I would like my homepage to show my portfolio projects (custom posts). My current theme has a Portfolio template so I have assigned my portfolio page to this template and as site’s front page set to display as “A Static Page”:

This template will display your portfolio and allow you to set your portfolio as the site’s front page.

When you first activate [the theme], you’ll see your posts laid out in a grid. If you’d like to use the portfolio page template as the front page of your site which displays your projects, it’s simple to configure:

Create or edit a page, and assign it to the Portfolio Page Template from the Page Attributes module.
Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page”.
Select the page you just assigned the Portfolio Page Template to as “Front page” and set another page as the “Posts page” to display your blog posts.`

I am not completely clear how Eksell is set up to handle portfolio projects on the homepage. Please would you clarify. Thank you!

    Hi @nicolewp,

I’ve added a page template called “Portfolio Template” in version 1.3.0 of Eksell. It replicates the Jetpack portfolio archive pages and can be set as the front page of your site on Settings → Reading in the administration panel.
