• Hi,

Happy New Year and apologies if this is the wrong forum – please let me know if so!

I am seeking advice/input on a plugin that renders latest and popular posts. Looking for:

    – ability to filter by category, date range, and/or popularity
    – would like, in some instances, to render latest posts, regardless of popularity (reverse chronological, a la WordPress’ default widget, is fine) in some locations.
    – would like, also, to render posts based on popularity with some additional filtering desired (date range, category, etc).
    – ability to show thumbnail/featured image is great
    – would like to show other info, especially excerpt, in some instances
    – ability to further customize layout would be nice
    – shortcode options strongly preferred

Overall, just looking for a good manager where I have decent control of the posts from a few filtering priorities (both latest and popular), ability to deploy various instances with different criteria for filtering/display, and some good aesthetic options.

Don’t mind a premium app. Thanks so much for looking and, again, happy new year, all.

    Cheers,
    Bryan

  • Have you tried searching the plugins repository?

Yes – certainly. There are a multitude of them. I find it interesting (at least from what I saw) that distinct plugins are required for latest, popular, and related posts. I was hoping to find a single plugin that managed these various aspects “under one roof.” It would seem to make sense to me in that, largely, it is a function of filtering post info (date, category, author, tags, etc.)

So, was looking for any input or experience. Additionally, certain ones that I have found that may perform a good amount of the desired function are also very out of date with updates or lack shortcode or have certain, undesirable limitations.

    Thanks…

Ah, yes, but it is filtering the post info based on different data. It’s possible that nobody who’s created one of these has ever thought of combining all of these functions. Perhaps your best bet is to select one or two you like and inquire of the authors whether or not they might include these other functions in the future.

Keep in mind that plugins like this can put a lot of strain on a server, since they are constantly hitting the database. This might be too much for shared hosting, in which case a VPS is the next step up.
