• Hi Mike,

Let’s say I have three comics: two take place in the same universe and one takes place in it’s own universe. It’s it a best practice to make three collections, or two collections and try to separate the shared universe using the storyline feature?

I’ve read all the documentation on Webcomic I can find, but I haven’t found anything on this.

    Thanks

That’s an interesting question deviantbono. I don’t know that there’s a best practice for situations like this; either setup would work. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that Webcomic treats collections as being completely independent… ignoring the crossover feature that let’s you assign characters and storylines from one collection to another.

Technically speaking this mostly affects the standard F/P/N/L navigation: you can’t interweave two collections into the same navigation with Webcomic, because navigation is always collection-specific. My recommendation:

    • If you think you might ever have a situation where you would want navigation interwoven – maybe chapters alternate between the separate comics, and you want readers to just keep hitting next to read instead of jumping between different collections –?make them one collection and differentiate them some other way (storylines, categories, etc.).
    • If the two shared-universe comics are almost entirely independent – so that you wouldn’t want readers to be hitting next and suddenly be reading a technically different comic – make them separate collections. You can still note when characters or storylines intersect using crossovers, but the two will remain independent and readers won’t get “lost” by stumbling into a different comic while browsing.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Mike,

Follow-up question. Let’s say I have a comic with three ongoing story threads. Chapter 1 sets up all three threads, but each subsequent chapter only touches on two at a time, kind of alternating/cycling through them.

How should I configure storylines to track this. Would I have one storyline for each chapter and then one storyline for what I’m calling the “thread” here (a.k.a story arc, etc.). Each page would then belong to a chapter-storyline and a plot-storyline.

Or is there another way to track chapters? Maybe through a custom field?

Thanks again for this great plugin!
