Advice for a social wordpress

Hey guys,

I am no developer so I’m looking for some advice and guidance ??

I’m planning on turning my wordpress main page from a top-down privileged user posting into a social feed contributed to by all users.

There are going to be 2 plugins that allow all users to create posts with custom post types. These custom post types will be pulled onto the main homepage feed.

My question is do you recommend giving all users the possibility to post to the homepage (especially if there is a high concentration and would you recommend this method opposed to buddypress activity feed.

My only problem with buddypress is that it requires additional theme modification to work and realistically I do not need the main page of the blog for my posts, I simply want to see a feed of pulled plugin data like a facebook stream.
