• The wysiwyg that ships with wordpress is ok. Is there a more advanced (plugin) one? Is there anything that would allow a non technical user to change background color, color, etc.?

  • The WYSIWYG plugin that comes with WordPress is “Tiny MCE”. You can go to the Tiny MCE site and see what customizations you can make to the existing plugin.

    As for background colors…?

Those are specified in your stylesheet. the WYSIWYG has nothing to do with layout – only the text in your posts. If you want a WYSIWYG editor for the whole site, you’ll need to get Dreamweaver or something and do up your site in that. Then you’ll need to convert the layout into WordPress.

I don’t use WYSIWYG but someone I know likes this plugin https://www.mkbergman.com/?p=384

Probably won’t help with background colour though
