You can try checking some YITH plugins, I’d personally try this one:

or this one:
https://yithemes.com/themes/plugins/yith-woocommerce-ajax-search/

You can also try some advanced filtering and/or categorization, if that helps more, but that may produce a HUGE number of categories/subcategories. It really depends on how you want to develop the shop, and what complexity you want to give it for the future.

Most important is where/what is this data that relates parts to models and vice versa? Even for a single model’s range of trim lines, this is a huge data set. It’s impractical to develop this data unless one has very significant resources. You basically need to get this data somewhere and develop to it. Getting the data to fit a different schema would be a bad idea, as the data is constantly being updated. New models can use old parts, old parts are superseded, etc. Unless the plugin is provided by the data vendor for WP/WC, I cannot imagine an existing plugin working out of the box. This sounds like a bespoke app. Certainly you can look at similar plugins for inspiration of how to accomplish something, but what you develop needs to work with the data set first and foremost.

Thankyou everyone for your responses. Each one of them has been helpful.

Basically, my client wants to be able to allow a customer to select their car and then all the models of that car appear. They then select the model of that car and the engine capacity will appear. When they have selected the engine capacity, the products available for that car/model/engine will be displayed. And the hard bit is they also want the visitor to be able to search the other way. They select the part they want and they will be presented with the car/model/engine suitable for that car part.

I know it is a tall order and I did look at the yith plugins and they do have promise. Again thankyou everyone for your suggestions.
