"Advanced Disable Parent Menu Link" not working

I have installed and activated the subject plugin.

Each of the parent links in the menu bar should be disabled. It should not be a link to a page. Clicking on a parent should only open its menu of child pages.

Can anyone suggest how to make this work – or perhaps suggest a different plugin that works?

This is such a common issue in WP site layout I am surprised it is not an standard option in WP.
