We like to run promos when we introduce new products to spend $100 and get the new product for free.

To do so, I craft a coupon that adds that item to the cart for free automatically when the $100 threshold is hit.

HOWEVER. If someone reduces their cart after this happens, the free product remains in the cart and reverts to full price. Customers who check out without noticing get very angry about this result.

Is there a way to prevent this behavior or add a secondary “remove from cart” function when the threshold is no longer met?

Is there a different coupon solution that will behave better?

    Thank you,
    John

    Hi John @ombotanical,

If you’re using the Add Products feature, it will not remove the product if the coupon gets removed.

I might suggest that you swap over to using a BOGO coupon instead with the All Products Buy type, and the Single Product Get type (and select to auto add that product).

This should hopefully achieve the same goal but have it remove when it becomes invalid.

You can still attach cart conditions and use auto apply here too doing this method.

Any problems, please reach out to our premium support as it sounds like you’re using our premium plugin.

What you describe is how I have configured the deal, as far as I can tell.
    BOGO
    Customer buys any products
    Trigger Quantity 1
    Customer Gets
    Specific Product
    (Gift Product) Price override 0
Automatically add product to cart checked
    Only once checked
    Usage Restriction Minimum Spend
    Scheduler applied
Enable Auto Apply for this coupon

This works as intended UNTIL a client reduces their cart below $100, it reverts the gift product to regular price and leaves it in the cart… even if that addition increases the cart over $100 again.

Example: Customer reduced their cart to $85. Free product reverted to $40. Their resulting invoice was $125 as the product did not remove from the equation.
