I am running Google SiteKit. If I turn off Google AdSense in the plug in my Google Page Speed Score on mobile is almost 100. If I turn it on it tanks my speed and lowers my grade to 33 was causes me not to pass. Can you please help. I want to have the Adsense code on my site, but don’t want to loose rankings (which I think has happened) because my speed is so slow. Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out and sharing insights of the performance testing you’ve undertaken. When it comes to inserting ads on your website, whether through Site Kit or manually inserted there will always be network requests made the ad networks. Site Kit itself only adds the AdSense Auto ads snippet on users site, the same as a manual insertion, without making any additional network requests. If you do some performance testing with Site Kit deactivated and AdSense code added manually I expect you’ll find similar results.

While we’re limited to Site Kit plugin support you may also wish to a support topic on the AdSense Support Center. The product experts would have more insights than we do here in Site Kit plugin support when it comes to performance of ads.

You can also wish to experiment with AMP, along with amp-ads. As with the performance testing you’re already done you could do additional tests between your AMP and non AMP URLs. The Site Kit plugin can insert AdSense code on your AMP URLs also.

Hopefully the above helps in some way. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance with you on ad performance. Do however let me know if you would like me to clarify anything with the above.

Thanks so much. I’m a little confused that Google’s own product would tank the score to much though so the point that it fails the Google Page Speed Tests. I’ll touch base with Google AdSense to see if they can offer some help. Thanks so much.

No problem at all. Good call reaching out out to the AdSense team directly. When using ads through any ads provider there will be network requested made, which can of course result in a trade off with performance. Hopefully you’ll find some additional information or tips useful from the AdSense team.

My case is similar, but I eliminated all Google ads from the front page, and i still get trashed on the lighthouse test.

Even worse, I eliminated the Google tag manager setting completely from Site Kit settings and it still appears on the test report.

Finally it shows my site has no robots.txt file … false

@rickyprice If you’d like to open a new support topic we’d be happy to assist with your case individually.

Note that we can only assist with Site Kit queries. If performing tests when it comes to ads and Google Tag manager you may also wish to perform checks when these products are manually added, and not specially added via Site Kit. Site Kit is primarily a wp-admin operated plugin. On the front end – used to measure your sites performance, the plugin only inserts the product snippets, similar to the snippets you would insert manually if not using Site Kit. The plugin itself doesn’t make any additional http requests on the front end or add any other performance impacting markup.
