    Hi there,

On a website I’m using have AdRotate Banner Manager + W3C Total Cache. On Settings > Miscellaneous I checked the “Check this box if you use W3 Total Caching on your site.” and added the related entry to the right section of my wp-config.php file.

While the dynamic group of ads I created works perfectly fine on desktop, it doesn’t rotate on mobile.

The console log is clean, and I tried to temporarily disable the caching plugin & in incognito, but nothing changed. I can’t explain why my ads keep being static on mobile.

Is there anything obvious I’m missing?

    Thanks,
    Fabio.

If that’s all you did for caching then you probably didn’t set up W3TC correctly – Check out this guide for details: https://support.ajdg.net/knowledgebase.php?article=46

@adegans As explained on my original message, the issue occurs also with W3TC disabled. All of the recommended settings were already in place, anyway.

However, I noticed that I have a nginx-specific caching enabled at hosting level. Do you happen to know if this can affect the ad rotation mechanism? If so, could you recommend any specific exclusion path or settings to make dynamic ads groups work on mobile?

Also, I can’t explain why this issue happens on mobile only since caching is enabled (with the same exact settings) on desktop. I would expect it to affect the ad rotation behavior on desktop as well, unless I’m missing something.

Any caching that is not supported or compatible can hinder loading of dynamic content yes.

I’m not familiar with Nginx but I imagine it would ignore whatever settings you made in AdRotate.
I would also think that mobile or desktop makes no difference for such a cache.

This would suggest that the issue not necessarily caching but something else.

Maybe it’s simply the way you set up the ads. If you set up a dynamic group for example. The ‘new-ad-every-few-seconds’ does not work for mobile in AdRotate Banner Manager. That’s an AdRotate Pro feature.
Or your site does something with AMP or a mobile theme, which also would explain why things work differently for different devices.

    Yes, agree.

If you set up a dynamic group for example.

    I did.

    It doesn’t.

I see, but everything has been working fine for years, we noticed this issue only a few days ago. Also, it wouldn’t explain why in some use cases it seems to be working fine on Safari mobile. Has this limitation been introduced recently?

Also, just for me to know, is there a money back guarantee-like policy for the Pro license, in case it doesn’t actually solve the problem?

    Thank you once more, @adegans.

The dynamic group limitation has been in place for years.
Until recently it also didn’t work on AdRotate Pro to save server resources. The idea being that people would scroll away before the 2nd ad would load anyway.
But as hosting keeps improving that limitation was removed 2 years ago or something. Making it a Pro feature.

If you’ve had this setup for years it could be that something changed with your website/caching/other plugins. Or that the mobile device you used, used to load the desktop site. Firefox Mobile can do that for example.
My iPad using Safari usually loads desktop sites too. So maybe it’s something in that direction.

If you minify javascript perhaps clear that minify cache. Sometimes that helps.

    Otherwise I don’t know.

I do give refunds on purchases if there is a truly unworkable situation with my plugins. But that’s determined on a case by case basis.

@adegans We purchased a Pro license, and ads started rotating on mobile as expected. So, it doesn’t seem to be related to caching or any kind of bug.

Adding a notice on the ‘Manage Groups’ page explaining that dynamic ads won’t rotate on mobile with the Free version would be helpful. It would have saved us hours of debugging and could also help you convert more users to Pro.

I’m sure that’s somewhere in the dashboard, maybe in settings, but I’ll take it into consideration.
