Ads, ads and more ads…

  • Sorry, but the aggressive ad display is more than a bit intrusive – it materially distracts from the plugin’s functionality. I think there was a review a while back regarding the repetitive ad display and I believe your response was sth to the effect that admins could opt-out via a setting. I certainly couldn’t find a way to turn them off. I think most plugin authors have a tasteful ad for their premium products (or other offerings) that does not re-appear once viewed/closed.

    And finally, I think the popup (reconsider your decision) on the deactivate plugin link is unnecessary – once someone decides to delete your product, I think you should respect that. And it kept displaying until I clicked the “no, I really mean it button”.

    Overall, the above marketing decisions you’ve made don’t convey a sense of professionalism…

    We don’t show many ads, but you’re right that we should give users to option to opt out of them. We’ll add this feature.

    That statement is very surprising. The free plugin offers a lot of functionality. In fact we stuffed so many features into the free plugin (which could be considered premium) that hardly anyone is buying the premium plugin. Could you PLEASE have another look and specify exactly which features are only available in the premium plugin which you’d expect to be available in the free version?

    The pop-up basically says “If you’re deactivating the plugin because you faced issues with it, please give us a chance to fix it, for free”. I’m not sure if that can be called disrespecting the user’s wish to disable it. It’s asking if we can help, and it’s dismissible with one click. It shows our willingness to help (that’s also something we offer for free which many, many other plugins only offer if you upgrade).

    Please let me know if you find above responses plausible, and esp. respond to the point about features in free vs. premium. Thank you!

    Ultimately, it’s subjective as to what is intrusive. I can only tell you that my sense is that you have quite a bit more ads/promotions than other plugins.

    While I appreciate your acknowledgment re opt-out, IMO all plugin promos should have opt-out by default.

    Rather than waste our respective time debating the freemium/premium balance, I’ll change my review on that issue.

    And while more vendors are adding pop-ups on de-activation, in my experience, most don’t. We’re all busy folks – if someone doesn’t think a plugin is useful for whatever reason, IMO, a pop-up isn’t going to elicit an in-depth analysis of your product. I’m sure you can appreciate that, if I was de-activating because of the ad issue, throwing a pop-up in was perceived as yet another attempt to squeeze in a final pitch for your product.
