I am Administrator for a website being run on an institutional WordPress 3.6 multisite setup. We had some design problems two weeks ago when the theme (Weaver II) was updated and have started using a child theme since then. I just realized there is no longer an option to add pages (I haven’t had to add a new page since the update). When I hover over “+ New” on the gray menu bar, the only options are “Media”, “Link” and “User”. (For that matter, there was no gray menu bar while I was logged in to the website for the past week and a half — it just appeared again today.) When I hover over “Pages” on the left-hand Dashboard menu, there is no hover menu that appears, and when I click on that button to go to “Pages”, I can only edit or delete my existing pages, but not add any new ones.

We do use Role Scoper to manage Editors’ access, but that shouldn’t have an effect on the administrator, because you can’t modify the WP Administrator’s role through the plugin.

Is there a possible reason why I can no longer create new pages?

  • It sounds like you may need higher privileges (user role) on your login.

Do you have an alternate login that has a higher user role that you can test with?

No, I don’t have an alternate login. We do have someone who administrates all sites on the multisite platform, but I am the highest user for the website I’m working on. Could upgrading the theme (or WordPress, which was also recently upgraded) have changed administrator privileges?

It turns out this was a problem with the Role Scoper plugin. I deactivated that plugin and was able to add pages again.
