Recently I installed a self-hosted site for https://revolutionarygutters.com, which is hosted by BlueHost.

Currently, I am unable to access the self-hosted dashboard which would allow the addition of plugins. When I log into WordPress, I get the screen with stats and menu down the left side. I select “Admin” and immediately the url changes from revolutionarygutters.com to revolutionaryguttersdotcom/wordpress.com/wp-admin, which brings up a dashboard for the free version of WordPress.

I have contacted BlueHost and they suggest that this is where I should be landing. Can someone give me a bit of help here? I don’t know where this strange url came from but I’d love to get on with setting up this new site.

https://revolutionarygutters.com/ is a site at WordPress.com. Your domain’s name servers are set as WordPress.com’s, not Bluehost:

    revolutionarygutters.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.wordpress.com.
    revolutionarygutters.com. 86400 IN NS ns3.wordpress.com.
    revolutionarygutters.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.wordpress.com.

To use a self-hosted blog at Bluehost, you need to start by changing your domain’s name servers to Bluehost’s

Your domain is registered with Bluehost though, so contact them for instructions on setting it to your hosting account’s name servers.

Someone suggested I point the nameservers to WordPress, and I wondered about it at the time. At any rate, they’ve been switched back to BlueHost.

Guessing it will take a few hours before I see the resolution/change on my end.

    Thanks for your help!

Yeah it’ll take a bit, depending on your ISP.

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, your domain may go to its old location, and you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors.”

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours have passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache.

If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache: https://support.opendns.com/entries/26336865-Clearing-the-DNS-Cache-on-Computers-Servers-and-Web-Browsers

James, thanks for the extra bit of info and help. I’ll wait patiently for time to pass and hopefully I’ll be full steam ahead then. You’ve been a great help!
